Hello Friends and Fellow Explorers,
I hope this finds you in great spirits!
As children, many of us dreamed of having superpowers. Who didn't want the ability to fly across the sky, vanish in a blink, or hear the whispered secrets of faraway people? But what if I told you that beyond the pages of comic books and the realms of fantasy, some believe these powers can be a reality?
In the heart of the Himalayas, among Tibetan Buddhists, such superpowers are not only imaginable – they are an accepted part of spiritual practice.
To illustrate, allow me to share a recent story:
Tantalizing Tales of Transcendence.
I recently befriended an elderly Western monk at my favourite café. Eager to get his take on supernatural abilities, I asked him if he had ever witnessed anything extraordinary.
"Of course!" he exclaimed, as though I had just asked him if the sky was blue.
The monk went on to divulge a story so surreal that it left me speechless.
"Well," he began, "I was once practicing a highly advanced meditation, but I wasn't doing too well with the visualisations, so I went to my Guru to ask for advice. He told me to attempt the meditation again at 8 pm that evening."
At so, the appointed time, my monk friend settled onto his meditation cushion, and was instantly flooded with visualizations more vivid and powerful than he had ever imagined.
"My Guru was assisting me, you see," said the monk. "He was allowing me to ride on his coat-tails, offering me a glimpse from his enlightened perspective."
"So what was it like?" I ask, pressing for more.
"Well, at first I was surrounded by an army of Buddhas, and then my ego disappeared and a lotus flower appeared. I felt an indescribable gush of compassion well up inside me, which spread through the entire Universe, raining down blessings through all the hell realms."
"Sounds incredible," I say, feeling dubious but also kind of jealous. If I could experience something similar, perhaps I could finally let go of my stubborn skepticism.
"Yes, but that's not the incredible part," he adds with a grin. "When I returned back to my body and opened my eyes, there were a dozen butter lamps burning inside my room."
"Were they not there when you started?" I asked, confused.
"No, my Guru had manifested them to demonstrate the interconnectedness of my spiritual practice and the physical world.”
"But how can that be possible?" I object, my voice dappled with doubt.
"The ability to perform such feats is within the capability of any Lama worth his salt," replied the aging monk. "Since each chakra is composed of emptiness, once you have completely dissolved them all, you gain the power to manifest anything you desire out of that emptiness."
I simply don't know how to respond to such a claim, so I just sit there dumbfounded as my spiritual friend slurps his espresso and regales me with further astonishing anecdotes.
The Ever-Conflicted Skeptic.
As I weaved my way back home through the dusty Kathmandu streets, I found myself in a familiar and uncomfortable state of dissonance. My newfound monk buddy is so confident in the existence of such supernatural abilities, that to him they are beyond doubt - and yet all my attempts to witness the extraordinary for myself have proven fruitless.
And so my fascination with this concept of spiritual superpowers continues to bewilder me.
What are your thoughts? Is it possible to defy the laws of physics, or are these stories merely tall tales to tempt us onto the spiritual path?
In Depth Exploration.
To get a better understanding, I've taken a deep dive into the topic and written an extensive three-part article titled "Secrets of the Siddhis" which I will be sharing right here on my blog!
Part One introduces the concept of Siddhis, defining these mystical abilities and discussing the philosophical questions they pose.
Part Two examines the intersection of psychology and spirituality, exploring how scientific skepticism and psychological insights challenge these phenomena.
Part Three, reserved exclusively for Premium Subscribers, investigates neuroscience, advanced meditation practices, and experimental studies that push the boundaries of what we understand about human capabilities.

Another interesting and entertaining episode GB – keep 'em coming 🙂
I don’t doubt the potential for incredible manifestations.
Like your monk friend, the support and “invisible” aid of a trusted mentor has given me access to the inexplicable.
My inner sceptic keeps me grounded; my inner embrace of all universal possibility keeps my eyes open.
